News from SEFI, the European Society for Engineering Education

18 June 2018

SEFI – the European Society for Engineering Education published in May a new position paper on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in Engineering Education that advocates and gives ideas for creating inclusive environment at engineering education institutions. Under the lead of Chair of the SEFI Working Group on Diversity, Dr. Kacey Beddoes, the authors have outlined the steps towards inclusive learning environment through giving the right instructions and supporting teamwork which does not exclude some, and they bring attention to the subtle, implicit and unconscious biases.

In 2018, the SEFI Engineering Education Research (EER) working group celebrates its 10 years anniversary. Around Europe universities and schools of engineering have established professor- and lectureships especially dedicated to Engineering Education Research, with several PhDs awarded in this subject and more under way. At SEFI’s annual conferences an increasing number of EER-contributions have been presented.

The 2018 SEFI Annual Conference will focus on "Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Engineering Education Excellence". Organised by Technical University of Denmark, the conference is taking place Copenhagen, on 17-21 September. Registrations start on 15 July.
